This 4-day expedition takes you deep into one of the hottest and lowest places on Earth — the Danakil Depression. Explore the alien landscapes of Dallol, active lava lakes, salt flats, and get a glimpse into the resilient lifestyle of the Afar people.

Itinerary

Day 1: Mekelle – Drive to Afar Desert Camp
Meet your desert crew and local guide. Drive through rocky outcrops and plains. Overnight in a mobile camp near Afdera or Dodom.

Day 2: Erta Ale Volcano Trek (optional)
Evening hike to the crater rim. Overnight near the volcano (based on safety updates).

Day 3: Dallol Acid Springs & Salt Flats
Visit vibrant yellow and green sulfur lakes, the salt mountains, and watch traditional Afar salt cutting. Drive to Hamed Ela camp for the night.

Day 4: Return to Mekelle
Scenic drive through the desert, lunch on the way, and drop-off in Mekelle. Tour ends.
